Either before this point or at this point, we should have a release
of 9.1 that we can install. In a perfect world, it will happily sit in
the same database as the existing version 7 database. The two
engines will run against the same data, but existing processes
will be accessed through the legacy engine, and new and
migrated processes through the new engine. Apparently the new
client may be used for both, however, although we have not seen
official notification of this.
We must also point out that this should be thoroughly tested
before being used in a production environment. The web client in
9.0 has a number of issues which may well be fixed by 9.1, but
we are concerned because running version 7 processes will bring a
whole new set of potential problems, and comprehensive testing
may not have been performed.
We can tell you right away, for example, that just about all client
scripting that is not completely limited to the standard function
calls will fail. In our experience, that may be as much as 75% of
all client script that need rewriting. Don’t say we didn’t warn you,
however, as we have been saying this would happen for many
years now.
